Tasting Notes
When I take my first sip of the Pear and Thyme Fizz, I notice the fresh flavor of pear right away. The pear is subtle but clearly present, giving a mild fruit taste that isn’t too sweet.
Aromas fill my nose with a light, herbal scent from the thyme. This balances the pear and gives the drink a clean, garden-like feel.
Here are some flavors I taste in each sip:
- Pear: Delicate and juicy
- Thyme: Light and herbal
- Lemon: Slight tartness
- Fizz: Sparkling, crisp finish
The bubbles from the sparkling water make the drink feel bright and refreshing. I like the way the thyme lingers, adding a gentle earthiness after each sip.
Texture is important in this drink. The fizz is smooth and lifts the flavors, while the pear gives it a soft body.
Each glass feels light, never heavy.
Substitute
If I don’t have every single ingredient for the Pear and Thyme Fizz, I just swap things out and keep going. Sometimes I’m out of one thing, or maybe I just want to see what happens if I mix it up a bit.
Common substitutions I use:
- Fresh pear → Canned pear or apple slices
- Thyme → Rosemary or basil leaves
- Gin → Vodka or even non-alcoholic gin
- Sparkling water → Club soda or tonic water
For non-alcoholic options, I do the following:
- Replace gin with lemonade or extra pear juice.
- Sometimes I’ll use sparkling apple juice instead of water, just to lighten things up.
Equipment I usually need:
- Measuring cup
- Cocktail shaker
- Spoon
- Strainer
- Glasses
Ingredients I swap if needed:
- 1 small pear (or apple, peach)
- 1 sprig fresh thyme (or rosemary, mint)
- 2 oz gin (or vodka, non-alcoholic)
- 3 oz sparkling water (or club soda, ginger ale)
- Ice cubes
Instructions I follow:
- Add fruit and thyme to shaker.
- Muddle gently. Don’t go overboard.
- Pour in gin and ice.
- Shake well.
- Strain into glass, top with sparkling water.
- If I’m feeling fancy, I’ll garnish with extra herb or a fruit slice.
