Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Hawthorne strainer
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Jigger or measuring tool
  • Ice
  • Rocks glass
  • Citrus juicer
  • Small knife for garnish

Ingredients

  • 2 oz bourbon whiskey
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1 oz fresh orange juice
  • 3/4 oz simple syrup
  • 1 dash ground cinnamon
  • 1 egg white optional
  • Orange twist for garnish
  • Ice for shaking and serving

Instructions

  • Fill the cocktail shaker with ice.
  • Add bourbon, lemon juice, orange juice, simple syrup, and cinnamon to the shaker.
  • If using egg white, add it now. Seal the shaker and shake hard for 10-15 seconds.
  • Remove the ice and shake again without ice for 5-10 seconds. This creates a silky texture.
  • Double strain into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice.
  • Cut a strip of orange peel and twist it over the drink to release oils.
  • Place the orange twist on the rim of the glass.

Notes

The egg white makes the drink smoother and creates a nice foam top. Skip it for a lighter version.
Fresh citrus juice works best. Bottled juice can make the drink taste bitter.
Store simple syrup in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
To make the drink stronger, use 2.5 oz bourbon and reduce orange juice to 0.5 oz.
This recipe works well with rye whiskey too.
