  • Ice

Ingredients

  • 6 fresh strawberries hulled and quartered
  • 4-5 fresh basil leaves

  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 1 oz simple syrup
  • Club soda
  • Ice cubes
  • Fresh strawberry and basil leaf for garnish

Instructions

  • Place strawberries and basil leaves in a cocktail shaker.
  • Muddle gently until strawberries release their juice and basil becomes fragrant.
  • Add vodka, lime juice, and simple syrup to the shaker.
  • Fill shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds.
  • Double strain into a Collins glass filled with fresh ice.
  • Top with club soda and stir gently.
  • Garnish with a fresh strawberry and basil leaf.

Notes

Store-bought simple syrup works well, but making it at home is easy. Mix equal parts sugar and water in a pot, heat until sugar dissolves, then cool completely.
Fresh ingredients make a big difference. Use ripe strawberries and bright green basil leaves.
Make it non-alcoholic by replacing vodka with extra club soda.
The drink stays fresh for about 2 hours when stored in the refrigerator.
Pre-muddle strawberries up to 4 hours ahead, but add basil just before serving to keep its fresh taste.
