Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Muddler
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Collins glass
  • Measuring jigger
  • Sharp knife
  • Cutting Board

Ingredients

  • 4-5 fresh strawberries sliced
  • 3-4 fresh basil leaves
  • 2 oz vodka
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1 oz simple syrup
  • Club soda or sparkling water
  • Ice cubes
  • Extra strawberry and basil for garnish

Instructions

  • Wash and slice the strawberries. Place them in the cocktail shaker with basil leaves.
  • Muddle the strawberries and basil gently to release their flavors.
  • Add vodka, lemon juice, and simple syrup to the shaker.
  • Fill the shaker with ice and shake for 10-15 seconds.
  • Strain the mixture into a Collins glass filled with fresh ice.
  • Top with club soda or sparkling water.
  • Garnish with a fresh strawberry and basil leaf.

Notes

The drink tastes best with ripe, in-season strawberries. Store-bought strawberries work well during off-season months.
Fresh basil adds the most flavor. Dried basil should not be used as a substitute.
The simple syrup can be adjusted based on the sweetness of the strawberries.
Make it non-alcoholic by replacing vodka with extra club soda.
The drink should be served right away while the bubbles are fresh and the ice is cold.
