A bar spoon or even a regular spoon works for gentle stirring.
If I’m using fresh pomegranate juice, a fine mesh strainer helps keep seeds out.
Champagne flutes or wine glasses really show off the colors and bubbles.
Honestly, paper towels are a lifesaver for little spills.
Ingredients
2ozpomegranate juicefresh or bottled
1ozorange liqueurCointreau or Grand Marnier both work
4ozdry sparkling winechilled
1/4ozsimple syrupoptional, to taste
Pomegranate seedsgarnish
Orange peelgarnish
Instructions
First, I chill the glass—either in the freezer or filled with ice water. I dump out the water before pouring the drink.
Pomegranate juice and orange liqueur go into the glass next.
If I’m in the mood for more sweetness, I’ll stir in some simple syrup.
Then, I slowly pour in the chilled sparkling wine. It helps keep the bubbles from foaming over.
I give it a gentle stir, just once or twice. Don’t overdo it or you’ll lose the fizz.
Pomegranate seeds go in, and I twist an orange peel over the top for a little aroma—then drop it in as garnish
Notes
I always taste before adding extra simple syrup—some juices are sweeter than others, and sparkling wines can vary a lot. Dry wines seem to balance the juice best.Serve it right away, while it’s still nice and bubbly. If I want a mocktail, I swap in non-alcoholic sparkling juice.Fresh garnishes really pop. Sometimes I’ll switch up the citrus peel or toss in a sprig of mint. Just don’t shake this one—no one wants flat bubbles.
