Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Muddler
  • Jigger or measuring cup
  • Strainer
  • Tall glass
  • Ice

Ingredients

Here's what you'll need to make one Pineapple Basil Cooler:

  • 2 oz pineapple juice
  • 1.5 oz vodka
  • 0.5 oz simple syrup
  • 5-6 fresh basil leaves
  • Club soda
  • Ice
  • Pineapple wedge and basil sprig for garnish

Fresh ingredients are key. Use real pineapple juice, not from concentrate, for the best flavor.

Instructions

Follow these steps to make your Pineapple Basil Cooler:

  • Put basil leaves in the shaker and muddle gently.
  • Add pineapple juice, vodka, and simple syrup.
  • Fill shaker with ice and shake for 10-15 seconds.
  • Strain into a tall glass filled with ice.
  • Top with club soda.
  • Garnish with a pineapple wedge and basil sprig.

Muddle the basil just enough to release its oils, but not so much that it becomes bitter.

    Notes

This recipe is easy to adjust based on your taste. For a stronger drink, add more vodka.
If you prefer it sweeter, use more simple syrup. You can also make a non-alcoholic version by leaving out the vodka and adding more pineapple juice.
Try different herbs like mint or cilantro for a twist. You can also use rum instead of vodka for a more tropical flavor.
Make sure to use fresh basil for the best taste. If you don't have a muddler, you can use the back of a wooden spoon to crush the basil leaves.
