Pear and Ginger Fizz Cocktail Recipe

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or measuring spoons
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Muddler
  • Tall glass (highball or Collins)
  • Bar spoon or regular spoon
  • Ice cubes
  • Citrus juicer (manual or electric)
  • Small knife and cutting board
  • Optional: Peeler for garnish

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe pear peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1- inch piece of fresh ginger peeled and sliced
  • 1 ½ oz vodka
  • ½ oz fresh lemon juice
  • ¾ oz simple syrup
  • Sparkling water about 3 oz
  • Ice cubes
  • Pear slice or twist and fresh mint for garnish optional

Instructions

  • Add diced pear and ginger to a shaker.
  • Muddle well to release juices and flavors.
  • Add vodka, lemon juice, simple syrup, and ice cubes to the shaker.
  • Shake hard for 15-20 seconds.
  • Strain the mixture into a tall glass filled with fresh ice using a fine mesh strainer.
  • Top with sparkling water and stir gently with a bar spoon.
  • Garnish with a pear slice or twist and a sprig of mint if desired.

Notes

Bartlett or Anjou pears are my go-tos because they’re sweet and juicy, but honestly, most pears will do in a pinch.
If I’m craving more ginger heat, I’ll grate a little extra before muddling. I also adjust the simple syrup depending on how sweet the pears are—sometimes they surprise you.
For a non-alcoholic version, I just leave out the vodka and bump up the pear and ginger. Garnishes aren’t necessary, but they do make the drink look nice.
If I’m making a big batch, I muddle and shake in smaller rounds to keep the flavors balanced. This drink’s best served fresh, right after mixing, so the fizz doesn’t vanish.
