Equipment

  • Julep cup or tall glass
  • Muddler
  • Bar spoon
  • Ice crusher or Lewis bag with mallet
  • Cocktail strainer
  • Measuring jigger
  • Knife and cutting board

Ingredients

  • 2 oz bourbon
  • 1 ripe peach sliced
  • 6-8 fresh mint leaves
  • 1/2 oz simple syrup
  • Crushed ice
  • Fresh peach slice and mint sprig for garnish

Instructions

  • Slice the peach and remove the pit.
  • Place peach slices and mint leaves in the julep cup.
  • Add simple syrup and muddle gently to release the mint oils and peach juice.
  • Pour in the bourbon. Fill the cup halfway with crushed ice.
  • Stir with a bar spoon for 15-20 seconds to chill and combine ingredients.
  • Add more crushed ice to create a mounded top.
  • Garnish with a fresh peach slice and mint sprig.

Notes

Use ripe, juicy peaches at peak season for the best flavor.
Always choose fresh mint. Dried mint won’t give the same bright flavor.
Store leftover simple syrup in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
For a non-alcoholic version, use peach tea and a splash of club soda instead of bourbon.
Crushed ice is key for proper dilution and presentation. A Lewis bag helps prevent ice from spraying while crushing.
