This lavender daiquiri is a twist on the classic daiquiri, using floral notes for a unique flavor. I like that it is easy to make and only needs a few ingredients and simple tools.

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or tablespoon
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Bar spoon or regular spoon
  • Measuring cup
  • Citrus juicer (handheld or electric)
  • Small saucepan (for making lavender syrup)
  • Coupe or martini glass

Ingredients

  • 2 oz white rum
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 3/4 oz lavender syrup
  • Ice cubes
  • Lavender sprig or lime wheel for garnish

Instructions

  • Make lavender syrup: Simmer 1/2 cup water with 1/2 cup sugar and 2 tsp dried lavender flowers. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
  • Strain and cool completely.
  • Fill shaker with ice: Add a handful of ice cubes to the shaker to chill the drink.
  • Add main ingredients: Pour 2 oz white rum, 1 oz fresh lime juice, and 3/4 oz lavender syrup into the shaker.
  • Shake well: Secure the lid and shake hard for about 15 seconds until the shaker feels cold.
  • Strain and serve: Use a fine mesh strainer to pour the drink into a chilled coupe or martini glass.
  • Garnish: Add a lavender sprig or a lime wheel for decoration.

Notes

If I use store-bought lavender syrup, I taste it first. Some commercial syrups are stronger or sweeter than homemade.
I always use culinary lavender, not decorative lavender, to avoid bitterness. For a lighter drink, I reduce the syrup by half.
More lime juice can be added if I want a more citrus flavor. If the drink tastes too strong, I shake it longer so the ice melts more and dilutes the cocktail.
A fresh garnish looks nice and adds aroma. Sometimes, I rim the glass with sugar for a sweeter sip.
I always serve the cocktail cold, as it tastes best that way.
