Ingredients

  • 1 cup freshly brewed coffee medium or dark roast
  • 0.25 tsp ground cinnamon or 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 pinch ground clove optional
  • 1 pinch ground ginger optional
  • 1 tbsp sugar, honey, or maple syrup
  • 0.5 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 oz coconut milk or soy milk or preferred milk
  • 1 oz coffee liqueur or dark rum
  • whipped cream for topping
  • ground cinnamon extra for topping

Instructions

  • Brew a cup of coffee using your preferred method.
  • Pour coffee into a small saucepan and add cinnamon, clove, and ginger.
  • Warm over low heat, stirring in sugar or sweetener until dissolved.
  • Add vanilla and milk of choice, stirring and heating without boiling.
  • Remove from heat and stir in coffee liqueur or rum if using.
  • If using whole spices, strain into mug or glass.
  • Top with whipped cream and sprinkle with cinnamon.

Notes

Omit alcohol for a non-alcoholic version. Coconut or soy milk works for dairy-free diets. Stronger coffee pairs better with spices and milk. Add nutmeg or use maple syrup for a flavor twist. Scale up for groups and serve from a slow cooker.
