Pour coffee into a small saucepan and add cinnamon, clove, and ginger.
Warm over low heat, stirring in sugar or sweetener until dissolved.
Add vanilla and milk of choice, stirring and heating without boiling.
Remove from heat and stir in coffee liqueur or rum if using.
If using whole spices, strain into mug or glass.
Top with whipped cream and sprinkle with cinnamon.
Notes
Omit alcohol for a non-alcoholic version. Coconut or soy milk works for dairy-free diets. Stronger coffee pairs better with spices and milk. Add nutmeg or use maple syrup for a flavor twist. Scale up for groups and serve from a slow cooker.
