Equipment

  • Muddler or wooden spoon
  • Cocktail shaker or mason jar
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Ice cube tray
  • Tall glasses
  • Cocktail spoon for stirring

Ingredients

For 2 servings:

  • 1 cup fresh blackberries plus extra for garnish
  • 8-10 fresh mint leaves plus sprigs for garnish
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons honey or simple syrup
  • 2 cups sparkling water or club soda
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime slices for garnish optional

Instructions

Prepare the blackberry mixture:

  • In a cocktail shaker or mason jar, add blackberries, mint leaves, lime juice, and honey.
  • Muddle gently until berries release their juice and mint becomes fragrant.

Add ice:

  • Fill the shaker halfway with ice and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds. This helps mix the flavors and chill the mixture.

Strain the mixture:

  • Pour the blackberry mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into two tall glasses filled with ice, dividing equally.

Add sparkling water:

  • Top each glass with sparkling water (about 1 cup per glass).
  • Stir gently with a cocktail spoon to combine without losing carbonation.

Garnish and serve:

  • Add a few fresh blackberries, a sprig of mint, and a lime slice to each glass.
  • Serve immediately while bubbles are still active.

Notes

This mocktail can be modified in several ways. For a sweeter version, add more honey or simple syrup. For less sweetness, reduce the amount or substitute with a sugar-free option.
Make a pitcher version for parties by multiplying the recipe. Prepare the blackberry-mint base ahead of time, but add sparkling water just before serving to maintain carbonation.
For an adult version, add 1 ounce of vodka or white rum per serving to the muddled mixture before adding sparkling water.
The blackberry puree can be made up to 24 hours in advance and stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container.
