I love making simple, refreshing drinks at home, and honestly, the Mango Mint Colada Cocktail is one of my go-tos. This recipe blends sweet mango, cool mint, and creamy coconut for a tropical drink you can whip up in just a few minutes.
It’s a nice way to treat yourself or surprise friends when they drop by. Whenever I want something different from the usual, I reach for this cocktail—the flavors just fit together without feeling too heavy.
The ingredients are easy to find at most stores. You don’t need any fancy bartending skills to pull this off, either.
Mango Mint Colada Cocktail Recipe
Equipment
- For this recipe, I grab a decent blender. It helps get the cocktail nice and smooth.
- I also use a muddler for the mint leaves to really get that flavor going. If I can’t find my muddler, I just use the back of a spoon—no big deal.
- A jigger or a small measuring cup helps with the right amounts.
- I always need a sharp knife and a cutting board for the mango, obviously.
- If I want a super smooth drink, I’ll use a strainer.
- I like to serve this in a tall glass
- I usually add a straw and a spoon for easy sipping (and stirring, if needed).
Ingredients
Here’s what I usually grab for one serving:
- 1 cup fresh mango chunks peeled and pitted
- 6 fresh mint leaves
- 2 ounces coconut cream
- 1 1/2 ounces white rum
- 1/2 ounce lime juice freshly squeezed
- 1 tablespoon simple syrup optional, for sweetness
- 1/2 cup ice cubes
- For garnish I go with a mint sprig and a little slice of mango.
Instructions
- First, I toss the mint leaves and simple syrup into the blender or glass. I muddle them gently to get that minty aroma going.
- Then, I add the mango chunks, coconut cream, rum, lime juice, and ice cubes. I blend until it looks smooth and creamy—sometimes I just eyeball it.
- If it’s too thick, I’ll splash in a bit of water or coconut milk. If I’m not into pulp, I pour the drink through a strainer.
- I pour the Mango Mint Colada into a tall glass, garnish with a mint sprig and a slice of mango, and that’s it.

Tasting Notes
When I try the Mango Mint Colada, the first thing I notice is how smooth and cold it is. The coconut makes it creamy, but it doesn’t feel heavy at all.
The mango flavor stands out right away. It’s sweet, but not in a way that’s too much. There’s a bit of tartness in there, too.
The mint gives it this fresh, clean lift. Each sip feels balanced, not cloying. I also catch a hint of citrus, which keeps things interesting.
This cocktail isn’t very strong, honestly. Even with the rum, the fruit flavors are still front and center.
After a sip, there’s still a cool, minty taste lingering. The natural sweetness from the mango and coconut makes it really pleasant—especially if you serve it ice cold.
Substitute
Sometimes I just don’t have fresh mangoes or mint sitting around. When that happens, I grab frozen mango chunks, or honestly, even canned mango puree if that’s what’s in the pantry.
Both of those work out just fine in this cocktail, at least in my experience.
If I’m out of fresh mint, I’ll reach for mint extract instead. I usually start with just a drop or two, since that stuff can be pretty intense.
Then I taste as I go, making sure it’s not overpowering everything else.
For the coconut part, sometimes I swap coconut cream for coconut milk. It makes the drink lighter, less thick—maybe a little more refreshing, depending on your mood.
If you’re skipping alcohol, just leave out the rum. I’ll use more mango juice or even a splash of pineapple juice to keep it fun.
Tip: I always taste and adjust as I go. Some substitutes can totally change the flavor, so don’t be afraid to tweak it until it’s right for you.
