I love mixing up new drinks, and honestly, the elderflower mojito is one of my favorites.
This cocktail blends the crisp taste of mint and lime with the light, floral flavor of elderflower for a refreshing twist on the classic mojito.
It’s simple enough for anyone to make at home.
Plus, it adds something a little special to any get-together, even if it’s just you and your playlist.
When I make this drink, I always notice how the elderflower liqueur lifts the flavor and makes the mojito feel extra bright.
Whether I’m relaxing after work or hosting friends, this recipe is always a hit.
If you enjoy trying new cocktails, you’ll want to see how easy it is to make your own elderflower mojito.
Equipment
- Tall glass (highball)
- Muddler or wooden spoon
- Bar spoon or regular spoon
- Jigger or shot glass for measuring
- Citrus juicer (optional)
- Knife and cutting board
- Ice cube tray or bag
Ingredients
- 8 –10 fresh mint leaves
- 1/2 lime cut into wedges
- 1 oz 30 ml elderflower liqueur (like St-Germain)
- 1 1/2 oz 45 ml white rum
- 1 –2 teaspoons white sugar or to taste
- Club soda to top up
- Ice cubes
- Mint sprig and lime wheel for garnish, optional
Instructions
- Place mint leaves and lime wedges in the bottom of the glass.
- Add sugar. Use the muddler to gently press (not tear) the mint and lime, releasing juices and oils.
- Fill the glass with ice, almost to the top.
- Pour in the rum and elderflower liqueur.
- Stir gently to mix the flavors.
- Top with club soda.
- Garnish with a sprig of mint and a lime wheel, if you like.
I use a gentle touch with the muddler so the mint is bruised but not bitter.

Tasting Notes
When I sip the Elderflower Mojito, I first notice a gentle floral aroma.
The elderflower liqueur gives a light sweetness and a unique scent that mixes well with fresh mint.
The taste is refreshing and crisp.
I pick up the tang from the lime juice, which balances nicely with the subtle sweetness from the liqueur and the soft fizziness from the club soda.
The flavors layer together without becoming too strong or too mild—just the way I like it.
The mint adds a cool and clean note.
It makes the cocktail feel extra fresh, especially over ice.
I sometimes taste hints of citrus and herbs sneaking through.
A few words that come to my mind as I drink are:
- Fresh
- Crisp
- Floral
- Balanced
Each sip is cool, easy to drink, and never overly sweet.
The flavors feel clean and straightforward, and honestly, the Elderflower Mojito works well for a warm day or a relaxed gathering—maybe even both.
Substitute
Sometimes I just don’t have elderflower liqueur sitting around. When that happens, I’ll grab one of these alternatives:
- St. Germain alternative: I’ll swap in elderflower syrup and throw in a bit more rum to balance things out.
- No fresh mint? I reach for basil leaves. They’re fresh, but the flavor’s a little unexpected—in a good way.
- Rum replacement: If white rum’s missing, I’ll use vodka or gin. Each one changes the drink a bit, but honestly, that’s part of the fun.
If I’m after a non-alcoholic version, I just skip the rum and elderflower liqueur. Instead, I mix elderflower cordial, soda water, mint, and lime juice for a pretty refreshing mocktail—honestly, it’s not bad at all.
- Mix up whichever substitutes you’re using from above
- Muddle everything together, same as usual
- Tweak the sweetness or booze level until it tastes right
- Serve over ice, and if you’re feeling fancy, throw on a garnish
