Equipment

  • Large punch bowl
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Citrus juicer or reamer
  • Sharp knife and cutting board
  • Mixing spoon or ladle
  • Strainer
  • Ice mold or large ice cubes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh blood orange juice
  • 0.5 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 0.5 cup simple syrup equal parts sugar and water
  • 1 cup vodka or gin
  • 2 cups sparkling water or club soda
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 small stick cinnamon
  • Ice for serving
  • Citrus slices blood orange, lemon, for garnish

Instructions

  • Juice the blood oranges and lemons with your citrus juicer.
  • Strain the juice to get rid of seeds and any extra pulp.
  • In a big punch bowl, mix together the citrus juice, simple syrup, and your choice of vodka or gin.
  • Stir it gently—no need to go wild.
  • Add the grated ginger and cinnamon stick.
  • Pop the bowl in the fridge and let it chill for at least 30 minutes.
  • Right before serving, pour in the sparkling water or club soda.
  • Add ice and toss in some citrus slices for garnish.
  • Ladle into glasses and serve cold.

Notes

Use vodka for a lighter flavor or gin for a more herbal note. Adjust sweetness by reducing simple syrup. Fresh juice is highly recommended. For stronger spice, let the cinnamon stick steep longer. Easily doubled for larger gatherings.
