Equipment

  • Large pitcher or glass jug
  • Cutting Board
  • Sharp knife
  • Blender or food processor
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Mixing spoon
  • Serving glasses
  • Ice cube tray

Ingredients

  • 4 cups diced seedless watermelon
  • 1 bottle dry white wine 750 ml; Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio
  • 1 cup strawberries chopped
  • 1 orange thinly sliced
  • 1 lime thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup vodka or white rum optional
  • 2 tbsp sugar or honey adjust to taste
  • 1/2 cup sparkling water or club soda add just before serving
  • fresh mint leaves for garnish
  • ice cubes for serving

Instructions

  • Blend the watermelon until smooth, then strain through a fine mesh strainer to remove pulp.
  • Pour the watermelon puree into a large pitcher.
  • Add the white wine, sliced orange and lime, chopped strawberries, and sugar or honey; stir until the sweetener dissolves.
  • Stir in the vodka or white rum if using.
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours for the flavors to meld.
  • Stir again just before serving and add sparkling water or club soda.
  • Serve over ice in glasses and garnish with fresh mint leaves.

Notes

Taste before chilling and adjust sweetness as needed. Use chilled wine and fruit for a crisper sip. Freeze small watermelon cubes to use as ice that won’t dilute the drink.
