Equipment

  • Small saucepan
  • Whisk or spoon
  • Measuring spoons
  • Measuring cup
  • Heat-safe mug
  • Fine grater
  • Ladle

Ingredients

  • 2 cups milk whole, almond, or soy
  • 2 teaspoons honey or maple syrup to taste
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg plus extra for topping
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon optional
  • sweetener of choice optional, to taste
  • pinch of salt optional

Instructions

  • Pour milk into a small saucepan and warm over low heat, stirring occasionally.
  • Add honey (or maple syrup), vanilla extract, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Whisk until blended and milk is hot but not boiling.
  • Taste and add more sweetener if desired.
  • Pour into mugs. Sprinkle extra nutmeg or cinnamon on top if desired. Serve warm.

Notes

Use any milk (dairy or non-dairy). A pinch of salt enhances flavor. Freshly grated nutmeg adds the best aroma. Best served immediately while warm. Skip honey for a less sweet, but still flavorful, drink.
