Equipment

  • Jigger
  • Kettle or small saucepan
  • Mug or heatproof glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Peeler or zester
  • Strainer (optional)

Ingredients

  • 2 oz bourbon whiskey or rye for more bite
  • 1-2 tbsp honey or maple syrup
  • 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 4-6 oz hot water just hot, not boiling
  • 1 lemon peel for garnish
  • 1 cinnamon stick for stirring/garnish
  • 1-2 star anise optional

Instructions

  • Heat water until steaming, but not boiling.
  • Add honey to your mug, pour in hot water, and stir to dissolve.
  • Pour in bourbon and fresh lemon juice.
  • Stir everything together with a bar spoon or cinnamon stick.
  • Add a cinnamon stick and star anise (if using) for extra aroma.
  • Twist lemon peel over the mug and drop it in. Taste and adjust honey or lemon as needed. Let cool slightly before sipping.

Notes

Try rye whiskey or maple syrup for a twist. Use whole spices for big aroma, but avoid boiling water. Adjust honey and lemon to your taste. Garnish with lemon peel or wheel. Taste as you go—different honeys or lemons vary in flavor and strength.
