Ingredients

  • 2 oz whiskey smooth bourbon preferred
  • 1 fresh egg whole
  • 0.5 oz simple syrup or vanilla syrup
  • 0.5 vanilla bean split and scraped
  • freshly grated nutmeg for garnish
  • ice cubes

Instructions

  • Pour whiskey, egg, syrup, and vanilla bean seeds into a cocktail shaker.
  • Dry shake (no ice) for 15 seconds to froth the egg.
  • Add ice and shake again until chilled and creamy.
  • Strain into a chilled coupe glass using a fine mesh strainer.
  • Grate fresh nutmeg on top before serving.

Notes

Bourbon is best for its sweetness, but rye works for a bolder drink. Use a fresh egg at room temperature for best texture. Substitute vanilla syrup if vanilla beans are unavailable. Fresh nutmeg adds aroma and flavor—don’t skip it!
