Equipment

  • Coffee mug or glass
  • Small saucepan
  • Bar spoon
  • Jigger
  • Measuring spoons
  • Whisk
  • Spoon

Ingredients

  • 6 oz hot brewed coffee fresh, strong
  • 1.5 oz Irish whiskey
  • 0.75 oz vanilla bean syrup (see notes for homemade)
  • Whipped cream for topping
  • Vanilla bean or cinnamon stick for garnish, optional

Instructions

  • Brew hot coffee and make vanilla bean syrup (simmer equal parts sugar and water with split vanilla bean; cool and strain).
  • Add whiskey and vanilla syrup to your mug or glass.
  • Pour in hot coffee and stir gently to combine.
  • Top generously with whipped cream and garnish with vanilla bean or cinnamon stick if desired.

Notes

Use fresh, hot, strong coffee. Homemade vanilla bean syrup is easy and keeps in the fridge for a week. Pour coffee over a spoon to float cream on top, or simply mound on whipped cream for a classic look. Sprinkle with cinnamon or nutmeg for extra aroma.
