I make this drink with bright turmeric, fresh citrus, and a touch of honey. When I serve it, I use simple tools and a clean glass for the best look and taste.
A fine mesh strainer helps catch any turmeric pieces or pulp.
I always have a jigger to measure liquids—keeps the flavor balanced.
A long spoon works to stir before and after shaking. I use a citrus juicer for fresh lemon or lime juice.
For serving, I like a lowball or rocks glass. If I use ice,
I go for large cubes so the drink stays cold without watering down fast.
Ingredients
I prepare the following for one drink:
2ozginor vodka for a lighter taste
3/4ozfresh lemon juice
1/2ozhoney or simple syrup
1/2tspground turmericor 1 tsp fresh, grated
3oztonic water
Ice cubes
Optional Garnishes:
Lemon slice or twist
Small piece of fresh ginger
Sprig of mint
Black peppera small pinch helps the body use turmeric
Instructions
First, I fill a shaker with ice. I add gin, lemon juice, honey, and turmeric.
If I’m using fresh ginger or black pepper, I add them too. I shake everything well.
Turmeric can stick, so I shake for at least 20 seconds. Next, I strain the mixture into my glass over fresh ice.
I slowly pour tonic water on top and stir gently. This keeps the bubbles.
Last, I add a garnish like lemon, ginger, or mint. It’s up to you—whatever looks good.
Notes
I taste as I go, so the sour and sweet are balanced. If the drink seems too sharp, I add a bit more honey. For less sweetness, I use more lemon juice or less syrup. Turmeric can stain hands and tools, so I wash up soon after using it.If you don’t want powdered turmeric in your drink, fresh grated turmeric or a turmeric syrup can be used instead. Drinks with turmeric might settle, so I stir again if needed.I serve it cold and try to use up the drink soon after mixing since tonic water loses fizz with time.
