Equipment

  • Highball glass
  • Bar spoon or teaspoon
  • Jigger or small measuring cup
  • Ice cubes
  • Cocktail shaker (optional)
  • Small knife
  • Cutting Board

Ingredients

  • 2 oz tequila blanco or reposado
  • 4 oz orange juice freshly squeezed if possible
  • 0.5 oz grenadine syrup
  • Ice cubes
  • Soda water optional splash, for a lighter drink
  • Orange slice for garnish
  • Maraschino cherry for garnish

Instructions

  • Fill a highball glass with ice cubes.
  • Pour in the tequila and orange juice.
  • Stir lightly to blend the tequila and orange juice together.
  • Slowly pour the grenadine syrup down the side of the glass so it sinks to the bottom and creates a sunrise effect.
  • If you like, add a small splash of soda water on top for a lighter, more bubbly drink.
  • Garnish with an orange slice and a maraschino cherry. Serve without stirring so the layers stay visible.

Notes

Fresh orange juice makes this Tequila Sunrise taste brighter and less sugary than bottled juice. If you want a slightly tarter flavor, you can add a small squeeze of lime juice before stirring.
For a lighter drink, top with a splash of soda water. For a stronger drink, add a bit more tequila. Always serve it ice-cold and avoid stirring after adding the grenadine so the colors stay beautifully layered.
