Equipment

  • Highball glass
  • Jigger or measuring tool
  • Bar spoon
  • Ice

Ingredients

  • 2 oz silver tequila
  • 4-5 oz club soda
  • 1/2 lime
  • Ice cubes
  • Optional garnish: lime wheel or wedge

Instructions

  • Fill a highball glass with ice cubes to the top.
  • Pour 2 oz of silver tequila over the ice using a jigger or measuring tool.
  • Add club soda until the glass is nearly full, leaving about 1/2 inch at the top.
  • Squeeze in the juice of half a lime.
  • Gently stir with a bar spoon to combine all ingredients.
  • Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge if desired.

Notes

Silver (also called blanco or plata) tequila works best for this drink. Aged tequilas can make the cocktail too heavy.
Fresh lime juice makes a big difference - avoid bottled lime juice when possible.
The drink can be made stronger or weaker by adjusting the ratio of tequila to soda.
For extra flavor, try adding a splash of grapefruit juice or a few drops of orange bitters.
Keep the ingredients cold for the best results. Warm tequila or flat soda will reduce the drink's quality.
