Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or measuring cup
  • Bar spoon
  • Champagne flute or tall glass
  • Citrus juicer
  • Small pitcher
  • Ice cubes

Ingredients

  • 2 oz tequila
  • 1 oz triple sec or Cointreau
  • 2 oz fresh orange juice
  • 0.5 oz fresh lime juice
  • 3 oz champagne or sparkling wine
  • 0.5 oz grenadine
  • Ice for shaking
  • Orange slice or lime wheel for garnish

Instructions

  • Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice.
  • Add the tequila, triple sec or Cointreau, fresh orange juice, and fresh lime juice to the shaker.
  • Shake for about 10 seconds, or until the shaker feels cold to the touch.
  • Strain the mixture into a chilled champagne flute or tall glass, leaving space at the top.
  • Slowly pour in the champagne or sparkling wine so it gently mixes with the citrus base without losing too much fizz.
  • Gently drizzle the grenadine down the inside of the glass so it sinks to the bottom and creates a layered sunrise effect.
  • Garnish with an orange slice or lime wheel and serve immediately without stirring to keep the colors separated.

Notes

Use blanco tequila for a clean flavor that lets the citrus and bubbles shine. Freshly squeezed orange and lime juice will give you a brighter, fresher-tasting cocktail than bottled juice.
If you prefer a sweeter drink, add a touch more grenadine or use a sweeter sparkling wine. For a lighter version, use a bit less tequila or add extra orange juice.
Always pour the grenadine last—its heavier density helps it settle at the bottom and create that beautiful sunrise gradient in the glass.
