Equipment

  • Small saucepan
  • Blender or food processor
  • Fine mesh strainer (optional)
  • Bar spoon or teaspoon
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Small knife and cutting board
  • Citrus juicer

Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries hulled and chopped
  • 2 tablespoons sugar adjust to taste
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 cup orange juice fresh-squeezed if possible
  • 2 tablespoons grenadine
  • ice cubes
  • orange slice for garnish
  • extra strawberries for garnish

Instructions

  • Add strawberries, sugar, and water to a small saucepan. Cook on low heat until strawberries are soft.
  • Blend mixture until smooth and strain if desired. Let cool.
  • Fill a tall glass halfway with ice cubes.
  • Pour in orange juice.
  • Add 2–3 tablespoons strawberry puree and stir gently.
  • Slowly pour grenadine down the side of the glass so it settles at the bottom.
  • Top with an orange slice and a fresh strawberry for garnish.

Notes

Sweetness depends on fruit—adjust sugar to taste. For a lighter version, use half orange juice and half sparkling water. Serve in a clear glass for maximum sunrise effect. Chill puree before assembling for the best color separation.
