Equipment

  • Muddler or wooden spoon
  • Tall glass
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Cocktail shaker (optional)
  • Strainer (if using cocktail shaker)
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Blender (for strawberry puree)

Ingredients

  • 6-8 fresh strawberries hulled and sliced
  • 10-12 fresh mint leaves plus extra for garnish
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice about 1 medium lime
  • 1 tablespoon simple syrup or honey
  • 1/2 cup club soda or sparkling water
  • Ice cubes
  • 1 lime slice for garnish
  • 1 whole strawberry for garnish

The quality of ingredients matters in this simple drink. Use ripe, sweet strawberries for the best flavor.

Instructions

  • Place strawberries in a blender and puree until smooth. Strain if desired for a smoother texture.
  • Add mint leaves to the glass and gently muddle to release oils.
  • Add 2-3 tablespoons of strawberry puree to the glass.
  • Pour in lime juice and simple syrup or honey.
  • Fill the glass halfway with ice cubes.
  • Top with club soda or sparkling water.
  • Stir gently to combine all ingredients.
  • Garnish with a strawberry, lime slice, and mint sprig.

For a stronger mint flavor, muddle the mint more thoroughly.

    Notes

This mocktail can be customized in many ways. Try adding a splash of coconut water for a tropical twist.
Replace the strawberries with raspberries or blackberries for a different flavor profile.
For a spicy kick, add a thin slice of jalapeño when muddling the mint.
The drink is best served immediately after making, as the carbonation from the club soda will diminish over time.
If serving for a party, prepare the strawberry puree, mint, and lime mixture in advance, then add ice and club soda just before serving.
Children typically enjoy this drink, but you may want to reduce the lime juice and increase the sweetener for younger palates.
