Ingredients

  • 1 cup fresh strawberries hulled and sliced
  • 6-8 fresh basil leaves
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice about 4–5 lemons
  • 3-4 tablespoons honey or simple syrup adjust to taste
  • 3 cups cold water or sparkling water
  • 2 cups crushed ice
  • extra basil sprigs and strawberry slices for garnish

Instructions

  • Place strawberries and basil leaves in a pitcher.
  • Muddle gently to release their flavors without tearing the basil too much.
  • Add lemon juice and sweetener, then stir until the sweetener dissolves.
  • Pour in cold water or sparkling water and mix gently.
  • Add crushed ice to the pitcher or directly into glasses.
  • Stir again to combine evenly.
  • Garnish with strawberry slices and basil sprigs before serving.

Notes

Use chilled water or sparkling water to keep the drink crisp. Add ice just before serving to avoid dilution. Straining the muddled fruit gives a smoother drink, or leave it in for a more rustic feel. Easily doubled for larger groups.
