I want a refreshing, easy-to-make drink for gatherings. My spiked lemonade jug cocktail mixes lemon juice, spirits, and a little sweetness for a chilled drink that serves several people at once.
First, I juice the lemons and check for seeds. I pour the lemon juice into the large jug.
Next, I add the simple syrup and vodka. Then, I pour in the cold water and stir well with my long spoon until everything mixes.
I taste the mix before serving. If it’s too tart, I add a little more syrup or water.
I fill the jug with lots of ice cubes right before serving, so the drink stays cold but not watered down. For garnish, I add lemon slices and a few mint leaves.
I give the drink a final gentle stir. When ready, I pour into glasses with extra ice if needed.
Notes
I always adjust the sweetener and alcohol to suit my taste. For a lighter drink, I use less vodka. If serving kids or guests who don’t drink alcohol, I keep a separate batch without vodka. Using fresh lemon juice really makes a big difference in flavor. If I prepare the drink ahead, I add ice right before serving so it stays cold but doesn’t get diluted. I sometimes use flavored vodka for a twist.Leftovers keep in the refrigerator for up to two days, but honestly, the drink tastes freshest right after mixing.
