Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Bar spoon
  • Measuring jigger
  • Muddler
  • Highball or spritz glass
  • Small pot
  • Ice cubes

Ingredients

  • 2 oz pomegranate juice fresh if possible
  • 1.5 oz vodka
  • 0.5 oz homemade spiced syrup see notes for recipe
  • 3 oz prosecco or sparkling wine
  • pomegranate seeds 4-5, for garnish
  • 1 small rosemary sprig for garnish
  • ice cubes

Instructions

  • Add pomegranate juice, vodka, and spiced syrup to a cocktail shaker with ice.
  • Shake hard for about 15 seconds to chill and mix.
  • Strain into a highball or spritz glass packed with fresh ice.
  • Top with prosecco or sparkling wine—pour slowly to keep it bubbly.
  • Garnish with pomegranate seeds and a rosemary sprig.
  • For the spiced syrup: Simmer 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup water, 2 green cardamom pods, 1 small cinnamon stick, 2 whole cloves, and 2 thin slices fresh ginger in a small pot. Stir until sugar dissolves, let cool, then strain out spices.

Notes

The spiced syrup is easily customized—add more ginger or cinnamon for stronger spice. Dry sparkling wine works if you don’t have prosecco. For a mocktail, skip vodka and prosecco and use sparkling water. A fine mesh strainer keeps spice bits out. Fresh pomegranate juice boosts color and flavor.
