Equipment

  • Large punch bowl
  • Long-handled spoon for stirring
  • Ladle: For serving.
  • Ice bucket
  • Glasses (highball or punch cups work well)
  • Cutting board and knife for fruit
  • Measuring cups and spoons

Ingredients

For a batch that serves about 8-10 people:

  • 4 cups pear nectar or juice
  • 2 cups spiced rum
  • 1 cup brandy
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 4 whole star anise
  • 2 pears thinly sliced
  • Ice if serving cold
  • Sparkling water optional, for topping

Garnish options: Extra pear slices, cinnamon sticks, or star anise

Instructions

  • In a large punch bowl, mix pear nectar, rum, brandy, lemon juice, and honey.
  • Add cinnamon sticks and star anise. Stir well.
  • Chill the mixture for at least 2 hours to let flavors blend.
  • Just before serving, add sliced pears and ice if serving cold.
  • Stir gently and ladle into glasses.
  • Top with a splash of sparkling water if desired.
  • Garnish each glass with a pear slice, cinnamon stick, or star anise.

For a warm version, heat the mixture in a pot on the stove or in a slow cooker. Don't add ice.

    Notes

This punch can be made ahead of time. Mix everything except the pears and ice, then chill overnight.
For a non-alcoholic version, swap the rum and brandy for apple cider and more pear juice.
Adjust sweetness by adding more honey if needed.
The punch will keep in the fridge for up to 3 days. Remove the spices after 24 hours to prevent the flavors from getting too strong.
