Equipment

  • Mixing glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Jigger
  • Strainer
  • Rocks glass or coupe glass
  • Peeler or zester
  • Small saucepan

Ingredients

  • 2 oz rye whiskey or bourbon
  • 1 oz sweet vermouth
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1 dash orange bitters
  • 1 bar spoon spiced syrup optional, for extra warmth
  • Fresh orange peel for garnish
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  • Fill mixing glass with ice. Add whiskey, vermouth, bitters, and spiced syrup (if using).
  • Stir gently for 20–30 seconds until chilled.
  • Strain into a chilled coupe or over ice in a rocks glass.
  • Express the oils from an orange peel over the top and drop it in as garnish.

Notes

Use rye for a spicier cocktail, bourbon for more sweetness. For homemade spiced syrup, simmer sugar, cinnamon, clove, and orange zest. Orange bitters brighten the drink, but don't overdo it—let the whiskey shine. Garnish just before serving for best aroma.
