Equipment

  • I always start with a jigger to measure my ingredients precisely.
  • A muddler helps to release the flavors from any added spices or herbs.
  • Of course, you'll need a stirring spoon to mix everything smoothly.
  • Having a strainer is essential for a clean pour into your glass.
  • Don't forget a rocks glass to serve in style.

Ingredients

Here's what you'll need for the Spiced Honey Old Fashioned:

  • 2 oz bourbon or rye whiskey
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 dash Angostura bitters
  • 1 dash orange bitters
  • Orange peel for garnish
  • Cinnamon stick for garnish

Instructions

First, combine the honey and bitters in your rocks glass.

  • Use the muddler to gently mix them together.
  • Add the bourbon and a large ice cube. Stir well until the honey is fully dissolved into the whiskey.
  • Next, gently twist an orange peel over the glass to release its oils and then drop it in the drink.
  • Add a cinnamon stick for extra warmth and spiciness. It’s best served right away to enjoy the fresh flavors.
  • Take a sip and savor each aromatic note!

Notes

This recipe is flexible for a few tweaks to suit your taste. If you prefer a sweeter drink, a touch more honey will do. For a spicier kick, try adding an extra dash of bitters. You could even infuse the honey with spices beforehand for an enhanced flavor.
I enjoy experimenting with different types of whiskey for unique results. Let's chat about your favorite versions of this cocktail in the comments below! Cheers to delicious discoveries! 🥃
