  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Citrus juicer
  • Bar spoon
  • Small plate
  • Martini glass or coupe glass

Ingredients

  • 2 oz vodka
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 0.75 oz simple syrup
  • 0.5 oz ginger liqueur or homemade ginger syrup
  • Small piece of candied ginger for garnish
  • Granulated sugar for rimming glass
  • Lemon wheel or twist optional garnish

Instructions

  • Chill your martini or coupe glass in the freezer.
  • Rub a lemon wedge around the rim, then dip the rim in sugar.
  • Add vodka, lemon juice, simple syrup, and ginger liqueur or syrup to a cocktail shaker.
  • Fill shaker with ice about halfway.
  • Shake hard for about 15 seconds, until the shaker feels frosty.
  • Strain into your prepared glass.
  • Garnish with candied ginger or a lemon twist.

Notes

Fresh lemon juice makes a brighter, fresher cocktail. Make homemade ginger syrup for extra spice by simmering fresh ginger with sugar and water. Adjust sweetness or spice to taste. A sugar rim helps balance the tartness, but you can skip it for a sharper drink.
