Ingredients

  • 3 cups apple cider
  • 2 cups sparkling apple cider or apple juice
  • 1.5 cups whiskey
  • 0.5 cup lemon juice freshly squeezed
  • 1 orange sliced into rounds
  • 1 apple sliced into thin wedges
  • 0.5 cup fresh cranberries
  • 2 cinnamon sticks 2–3 sticks
  • 4 whole cloves 4–5 cloves
  • 1 star anise pods 1–2 pods
  • ground nutmeg Pinch

Instructions

  • Slice the apple and orange into thin pieces.
  • In a large pitcher or punch bowl, combine apple cider, sparkling cider (or juice), whiskey, and lemon juice.
  • Add the orange slices, apple slices, and cranberries.
  • Drop in the cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, and a pinch of nutmeg.
  • Stir everything gently to mix it up.
  • Chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before serving.
  • Serve over ice, or warm gently on the stove for a hot version if desired.

Notes

For a mulled drink, heat gently and keep the temperature low so the alcohol doesn’t cook off. Use bourbon for a smoother punch or rye for a spicier kick. Garnish with apple slices or cinnamon sticks. Adjust sweetness with extra apple juice if desired.
