Ingredients

  • 1 cup whole milk or dairy-free alternative
  • 2 oz mezcal
  • 2 tbsp chopped dark chocolate at least 60% cacao
  • 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp sugar or agave to taste
  • 1 pinch ground cinnamon
  • 1 pinch chili powder optional, for spice
  • whipped cream optional, for topping
  • chocolate shavings for garnish

Instructions

  • Heat milk in a saucepan over medium until steaming but not boiling.
  • Whisk in chopped chocolate, cocoa powder, sugar, cinnamon, and chili powder if using, until smooth.
  • Remove from heat and whisk in mezcal.
  • Pour into a mug. Top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings, if desired.

Notes

Use mezcal for its signature smoky flavor, or swap for tequila if you prefer less smoke. Adjust sweetness and spice to taste. For vegan, use plant-based milk and skip the whipped cream.
