Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger
  • Strainer
  • Small fine mesh sieve
  • Citrus juicer
  • Bar spoon
  • Glass
  • Ice

Ingredients

  • 2 oz bourbon or rye whiskey bourbon is sweeter, rye is spicier
  • 0.75 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 0.5 oz pure maple syrup not imitation
  • 1 egg white or 2 tbsp aquafaba
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters
  • 1-2 drops liquid smoke optional
  • lemon twist or orange peel for garnish
  • ground cinnamon optional, for garnish
  • ice cubes

Instructions

  • Pour whiskey, lemon juice, maple syrup, egg white (or aquafaba), bitters, and liquid smoke (if using) into shaker.
  • Seal without ice and shake hard for about 20 seconds to create foam.
  • Add ice, seal again, and shake another 20 seconds to chill.
  • Strain through a fine mesh sieve into a glass with fresh ice.
  • Garnish with a lemon twist or orange peel. Sprinkle with ground cinnamon if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

Always use fresh lemon juice for the brightest flavor. Try dark amber maple syrup for more depth. Add more syrup or honey if you prefer sweeter. Egg white/aquafaba gives a creamy foam but is optional. Both bourbon and rye work—each offers a unique twist. Use just a drop or two of liquid smoke. Cinnamon adds extra aroma and warmth.
