Equipment

  • Copper mug
  • Jigger or shot glass
  • Spoon or cocktail stirrer
  • Citrus squeezer
  • Small torch or smoking gun
  • Ice

Ingredients

  • 2 oz vodka or smoky whiskey
  • 1 oz pure maple syrup real maple syrup only
  • 0.5 oz fresh lime juice about half a lime
  • 4 oz ginger beer enough to top off mug
  • ice fill the mug
  • lime wedge or wheel for garnish
  • mint sprig optional, for garnish
  • small wood chips optional, for smoking

Instructions

  • Fill your copper mug all the way with ice.
  • Pour in the vodka (or smoky whiskey), maple syrup, and lime juice.
  • Stir it up with a spoon or cocktail stirrer.
  • Top with ginger beer.
  • Give it another gentle stir.
  • If you’re using a torch or smoking gun, wave a little wood smoke over the top for a few seconds.
  • Garnish with a lime wedge and mint sprig if desired. Serve immediately while cold.

Notes

Use only real maple syrup. Add more or less to taste. Try a smoky whiskey for a stronger smoked effect, or stick with vodka for a classic mule base. Smoked salt or a dash of smoked paprika is a fun twist. For a subtle smoke, use a torch or smoker, but it's still great without it. Always use fresh lime and plenty of ice for best results.
