Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or measuring cup
  • Bar spoon
  • Fine strainer
  • Rocks glass
  • Citrus juicer
  • Culinary torch or grill
  • Ice cubes

Ingredients

  • 2 oz bourbon
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 0.75 oz simple syrup or honey syrup
  • 1 fresh rosemary sprig for smoking and garnish
  • ice cubes
  • lemon wheel for garnish

Instructions

  • Use a culinary torch or gas burner to carefully light a rosemary sprig until smoking. Place the glass upside down over the sprig to trap smoke, then set aside.
  • In a shaker, combine bourbon, lemon juice, simple syrup, and ice. Shake well for 10–15 seconds.
  • Strain into the smoked rocks glass over fresh ice.
  • Garnish with the smoked rosemary and a lemon wheel.

Notes

Use caution when smoking rosemary. For a sweeter drink, add more syrup. Try grilling the lemon for extra smoky flavor. For a mocktail, use cold-brewed tea in place of bourbon.
