Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger
  • Citrus juicer
  • Mixing spoon
  • Strainer
  • Rocks or highball glass
  • Small plate for salt
  • Knife and cutting board

Ingredients

  • 2 oz tequila silver/blanco
  • 2 oz grapefruit juice freshly squeezed
  • 1 oz lime juice freshly squeezed
  • 2-3 oz sparkling water or soda water, to top
  • 0.5-1 tsp monk fruit sweetener or agave syrup to taste
  • ice cubes for shaking and serving
  • salt for optional salted rim
  • grapefruit slice or lime wedge optional garnish; jalapeño slice for heat

Instructions

  • Optional rim: Rub a lime wedge around the rim of a rocks or highball glass, then dip in salt. Fill the glass halfway with ice.
  • In a shaker, combine tequila, grapefruit juice, lime juice, and sweetener. Add ice and shake for ~10 seconds until chilled.
  • Strain into the prepared glass. Top with sparkling water and give a gentle stir.
  • Garnish with a grapefruit slice or lime wedge (or a jalapeño slice for a mild kick). Serve immediately.

Notes

Fresh juices keep the flavor clean and bright. Adjust sweetness to taste, or use flavored sparkling water (grapefruit or lime) for extra zip. Chill ingredients ahead to minimize dilution.
