This tropical rum cocktail mixes fresh orange juice, grenadine, and coconut cream for a drink that looks like a sunset in a glass. It takes just 5 minutes to make and serves one person.

Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or measuring cup
  • Hurricane glass or tall cocktail glass
  • Ice
  • Cocktail strainer
  • Bar spoon
  • Small knife and cutting board for garnish

Ingredients

  • 2 oz white rum
  • 1 oz fresh orange juice
  • 1 oz coconut cream
  • 1/2 oz grenadine syrup
  • Orange slice and maraschino cherry for garnish
  • Ice cubes for shaking and serving

Instructions

  • ill the cocktail shaker halfway with ice cubes.
  • Add the white rum, orange juice, and coconut cream to the shaker.
  • Shake for 15-20 seconds until well chilled.
  • Fill a hurricane glass with fresh ice cubes.
  • Strain the mixture into the glass.
  • Slowly pour the grenadine down the side of the glass - it will sink to create the sunset effect.
  • Garnish with an orange slice and maraschino cherry.

Notes

The drink should show clear layers with red at the bottom, fading to orange, then white at the top. Fresh orange juice works better than bottled juice.
Store coconut cream in the fridge after opening. It will stay fresh for up to 1 week.
This recipe can be made alcohol-free by replacing the rum with pineapple juice.
The drink can be served in any tall glass if a hurricane glass isn't available.
