Equipment

  • Large wine glass or highball glass
  • Ice bucket
  • Measuring jigger (optional)
  • Long spoon for stirring.

Ingredients

  • 4 oz dry red wine like Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon
  • 4 oz cola
  • Ice cubes
  • Orange slice for garnish optional

Instructions

  • Fill the glass halfway with ice cubes.
  • Pour the red wine into the glass first.
  • Add the cola slowly to prevent too much fizzing.
  • Stir gently with a long spoon to combine the drinks without losing carbonation.
  • Garnish with an orange slice if desired.
  • Serve right away while the drink is cold and bubbly.

Notes

Pick a medium-bodied red wine - expensive wines aren't needed for this cocktail.
The ideal ratio is 1:1 wine to cola, but adjust to taste.
Keep both the wine and cola chilled before mixing.
This drink goes flat quickly, so make it right before serving.
Don't stir too much or the cola will lose its fizz.
Some people add a splash of brandy or rum for extra kick.
