Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Strainer
  • Jigger or measuring cup
  • Muddler
  • Martini glass
  • Ice

Ingredients

For one cocktail, you'll need:

  • 2 oz vodka
  • 1 oz elderflower liqueur
  • 1 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 5-6 fresh raspberries
  • Ice
  • Lemon twist or raspberry for garnish

Use good quality vodka for the best taste. St-Germain is a popular brand of elderflower liqueur. Fresh lemon juice works better than bottled. Pick ripe, plump raspberries for the most flavor.

Instructions

  • Put raspberries in the shaker and muddle gently.
  • Add vodka, elderflower liqueur, and lemon juice.
  • Fill the shaker with ice.
  • Shake hard for 10-15 seconds.
  • Strain into a chilled martini glass.
  • Garnish with a lemon twist or fresh raspberry.
  • Muddling the raspberries releases their juice and flavor. Shaking with ice chills the drink and blends the flavors. Straining keeps seeds and pulp out of the glass.

Notes

This recipe is easy to adjust. For a sweeter drink, add more elderflower liqueur. For a tart version, use more lemon juice.
You can swap vodka for gin if you prefer.
Frozen raspberries work if fresh ones aren't available. Let them thaw before muddling.
To make a non-alcoholic version, use elderflower syrup instead of liqueur and replace vodka with soda water.
For a party, mix a big batch in a pitcher. Just don't add ice until you're ready to serve.
