Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or small measuring cup
  • Fine-mesh strainer
  • Bar spoon
  • Citrus juicer
  • Cocktail glass or coupe
  • Small bowl or jar
  • Ice cubes

Ingredients

  • 2 oz blanco tequila
  • 0.5 oz Cointreau or another orange liqueur
  • 0.75 oz fresh lime juice
  • 0.5 oz simple syrup or agave syrup
  • 1 oz butterfly pea flower tea cooled
  • club soda splash, optional, for a lighter finish
  • Ice for shaking and serving
  • Lime wheel or twist for garnish

Instructions

  • Brew some butterfly pea flower tea and let it cool completely before using.
  • Fill your cocktail shaker with ice.
  • Pour in the blanco tequila, Cointreau or other orange liqueur, fresh lime juice, and simple or agave syrup.
  • Shake hard for about 15 seconds, until the shaker feels very cold.
  • Strain the mixture into a chilled cocktail glass filled with fresh ice.
  • Gently pour the cooled butterfly pea flower tea over the top to create a layered purple halo effect.
  • If desired, finish with a small splash of club soda for a lighter, bubbly drink.
  • Garnish with a lime wheel or twist and serve immediately.

Notes

Keep the butterfly pea flower tea separate until just before serving so you get that dramatic color shift from blue to purple when it hits the citrus.
Adjust the sweetness by changing the amount of simple or agave syrup—use a bit less for a tarter drink or a bit more if you prefer it sweeter.
Stick with blanco tequila for a clean, bright profile that lets the citrus and floral notes shine. Serve ice-cold and enjoy right away for the best color and flavor.
