Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker or mason jar with lid
  • Jigger or measuring spoons
  • Bar spoon or just a regular spoon for stirring
  • Rocks glass (old-fashioned glass)
  • Ice cubes
  • Fine mesh strainer (optional, for a smoother drink)
  • Grater or zester (for optional nutmeg garnish)

Ingredients

  • 2 oz vodka
  • 1 oz coffee liqueur like Kahlúa
  • 1 oz heavy cream or half-and-half
  • 1 oz pumpkin spice syrup store-bought or homemade
  • Ice cubes enough to fill the glass

Instructions

  • Fill the rocks glass with ice cubes to chill it.
  • In the cocktail shaker (or jar), add vodka, coffee liqueur, pumpkin spice syrup, and heavy cream.
  • Add a handful of ice to the shaker.
  • Secure the lid and shake well for 10–15 seconds until the mix is cold and creamy.
  • Strain the drink into the prepared rocks glass over fresh ice.
  • Top with whipped cream and sprinkle with nutmeg using the grater or zester.

Notes

Fresh cream really does make a difference in texture. If I want it sweeter, I just add more syrup or a bigger dollop of whipped cream.
Lactose-free options like almond or oat creamer totally work if you’re avoiding dairy. Sometimes I’ll chill the glasses in the freezer—keeps things colder longer.
You can adjust the pumpkin spice syrup for a lighter or bolder flavor. For a stronger coffee note, a splash more coffee liqueur does the trick.
Not into sweetness? Just cut back on the syrup a bit. If I’m making these for a group, I multiply everything and shake up a batch.
