Equipment

  • Cocktail shaker
  • Jigger or measuring spoons
  • Strainer
  • Tall tumbler or highball glass
  • Bar spoon
  • Citrus juicer
  • Small plate (for rimming glass)
  • Ice

Ingredients

  • 2 oz blanco tequila
  • 2 oz fresh grapefruit juice
  • 1 oz pumpkin puree not pie filling
  • 0.5 oz lime juice fresh
  • 0.5 oz agave syrup or honey
  • 2 oz grapefruit soda or sparkling water
  • ice cubes
  • salt or sugar for rimming glass
  • lime wheel for garnish, optional
  • fresh grapefruit slice for garnish, optional
  • cinnamon stick for garnish, optional

Instructions

  • Rim the top of your glass with lime and dip in salt or sugar.
  • Fill the glass with ice cubes.
  • In a shaker, combine tequila, grapefruit juice, pumpkin puree, agave syrup, and lime juice.
  • Add ice to the shaker and shake hard for about 15 seconds.
  • Strain the drink into the prepared glass.
  • Top with grapefruit soda or sparkling water.
  • Gently stir with a bar spoon. Garnish with lime, grapefruit, or a cinnamon stick if desired.

Notes

Use pure pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling. Adjust sweetness by adding more or less agave syrup. For a lighter drink, use sparkling water instead of soda. No shaker? Stir ingredients well in the glass. Letting the cocktail rest for a minute helps the flavors blend. Taste and adjust lime or syrup as needed.
