  • Bar spoon or long-handled spoon
  • Cocktail jigger or measuring cup
  • Shallow dish
  • Microplane or fine grater
  • Sharp knife
  • Cutting Board

Ingredients

  • 12 oz pumpkin ale or pumpkin beer chilled
  • 3 oz ginger beer or ginger ale chilled
  • 1 oz apple cider
  • 1 oz bourbon optional
  • 0.5 oz orange liqueur optional
  • 2 tsp spiced sugar equal parts sugar, cinnamon, pinch nutmeg, for rimming
  • lemon or orange wedge for rimming and garnish
  • ice cubes
  • ground cinnamon or freshly grated nutmeg pinch, for topping

Instructions

  • Run a lemon or orange wedge around the rim of a pint glass, then dip rim in spiced sugar to coat.
  • Fill the glass halfway with ice cubes.
  • Pour in apple cider, bourbon (if using), and orange liqueur (if using).
  • Add the ginger beer or ginger ale.
  • Top with chilled pumpkin ale or pumpkin beer.
  • Stir gently with a bar spoon.
  • Garnish with a citrus slice and sprinkle with cinnamon or nutmeg. Serve right away.

Notes

Some pumpkin ales are sweeter, others spicier—try a few and find your favorite! Use fresh apple cider for the best flavor. Skip bourbon or orange liqueur for a lighter drink. Add more cinnamon/nutmeg for extra spice. Rim all your glasses ahead if making for a crowd. Pour ale slowly to avoid too much foam, and stir gently to keep things bubbly. Less ice = more fizz.
