Equipment

  • Large punch bowl or pitcher (2-3 quart capacity)
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Wooden spoon or large stirring utensil
  • Ice bucket
  • Ladle: For serving.
  • Decorative serving glasses
  • Cutting board and knife (for fruit garnishes)
  • Citrus juicer (optional, but helpful)
  • Fine mesh strainer (if using fresh pomegranate)

Ingredients

For the base:

  • 3 cups pomegranate juice fresh or store-bought
  • 2 cups orange juice freshly squeezed preferred
  • 1 cup cranberry juice unsweetened
  • 2 cups sparkling water or club soda
  • 1/4 cup honey or simple syrup adjust to taste
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

For garnish:

  • 1 orange thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup pomegranate seeds
  • Fresh mint leaves
  • Ice cubes

The quality of juice affects the final taste dramatically. Use freshly squeezed orange juice and natural pomegranate juice without added sugars when possible.

Instructions

  • Prepare the juice base: In your punch bowl or pitcher, combine pomegranate juice, orange juice, and cranberry juice. Stir well to mix.
  • Add sweetener: Mix in honey or simple syrup. Start with less than needed—you can always add more after tasting.
  • Add citrus: Stir in the fresh lemon juice. This adds brightness and balances the sweetness.
  • Chill thoroughly: Refrigerate the mixture for at least 1 hour before serving. This helps the flavors blend together.
  • Final assembly: Just before serving, add sparkling water and stir gently. Too much stirring will reduce the bubbles.
  • Garnish: Float orange slices on top, sprinkle with pomegranate seeds, and add fresh mint leaves. Add ice either to the punch bowl or individual glasses.

Notes

Store leftover punch without ice in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. The sparkling water will lose its fizz, so consider adding fresh sparkling water when serving again.
For a stronger flavor, prepare the juice base a day ahead. The flavors develop and deepen overnight.
Make this recipe more festive by freezing orange slices and pomegranate seeds in ice cubes. These decorative ice cubes look beautiful and won't water down your punch as quickly.
For a holiday version, add cinnamon sticks and star anise to the mixture while chilling. Remove before serving.
