First, I add the chopped plum and simple syrup to the shaker. I muddle until the plum is well crushed and juicy.
Next, I pour in the bourbon, lemon juice, and bitters.
After adding ice, I shake hard for about 20 seconds to chill the drink.
Then, I strain it through a fine mesh strainer into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice.
I garnish with a slice of plum or lemon, if I want a bit more color.
If I want a lighter drink, I sometimes top it with a splash of club soda. The flavor stays fresh, and the drink feels less heavy.
