Equipment

  • Large pitcher (about 2 quarts)
  • Measuring cups and spoons
  • Citrus juicer
  • Long spoon or bar stirrer
  • Cocktail shaker (optional)
  • Ice scoop
  • Serving glasses (rocks or margarita)
  • Small plate for salt/sugar rim
  • Knife
  • Cutting Board

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Silver tequila use mezcal for smoky variation
  • 1 cup Triple sec or Cointreau
  • 1 cup Lime juice freshly squeezed
  • 0.5 cup Simple syrup or agave syrup; adjust to taste
  • 0.5 cup Orange juice optional; softens the flavor
  • Ice enough to fill the pitcher halfway plus for serving
  • Lime wedges for garnish
  • Salt or sugar for rimming glasses
  • Jalapeño slices optional; for heat while mixing

Instructions

  • Rim serving glasses with lime, then dip in salt or sugar; set aside.
  • Fill a large pitcher halfway with ice.
  • Add tequila, triple sec (or Cointreau), fresh lime juice, and simple or agave syrup.
  • Stir well to chill and dilute slightly; taste and adjust sweetness or lime.
  • Stir in orange juice if using for a smoother style.
  • Pour into ice-filled glasses and garnish each with a lime wedge.
  • For make-ahead, mix everything except ice and refrigerate; add ice just before serving.

Notes

Silver tequila yields a crisp classic; reposado adds soft vanilla. For mezcal margaritas, swap some or all of the tequila for mezcal. Best served fresh so it doesn’t over-dilute.
