Salt or sugarfor rimming glasses
Jalapeño slicesoptional; for heat while mixing
Instructions
Rim serving glasses with lime, then dip in salt or sugar; set aside.
Fill a large pitcher halfway with ice.
Add tequila, triple sec (or Cointreau), fresh lime juice, and simple or agave syrup.
Stir well to chill and dilute slightly; taste and adjust sweetness or lime.
Stir in orange juice if using for a smoother style.
Pour into ice-filled glasses and garnish each with a lime wedge.
For make-ahead, mix everything except ice and refrigerate; add ice just before serving.
Notes
Silver tequila yields a crisp classic; reposado adds soft vanilla. For mezcal margaritas, swap some or all of the tequila for mezcal. Best served fresh so it doesn’t over-dilute.
