Equipment

  • Julep cup or rocks glass
  • Muddler or wooden spoon
  • Bar spoon
  • Jigger
  • Small saucepan
  • Ice crusher or mallet
  • Strainer (optional)

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Kentucky bourbon
  • 0.5 oz peppermint simple syrup or simple syrup with a drop of peppermint extract
  • 6-8 fresh mint leaves
  • crushed ice enough to fill the cup
  • fresh mint sprig for garnish

Instructions

  • Put mint leaves in the bottom of your glass. Add peppermint syrup. Gently muddle the mint to release oils.
  • Fill the glass halfway with crushed ice. Pour in bourbon. Stir until the glass gets frosty.
  • Top with more crushed ice, creating a mound above the rim. Garnish with a fresh mint sprig. Serve immediately.

Notes

Too much peppermint syrup can overpower; keep it subtle. Fresh mint is key for best flavor. Crushed ice keeps it classic and super chilled. Adjust sweetness to taste.
