Equipment

  • A cocktail shaker
  • A strainer
  • A tall glass
  • A muddler or wooden spoon
  • Ice
  • A knife and cutting board

Ingredients

For one serving, gather:

  • 4 oz pear juice or nectar
  • 1/4 tsp ground cardamom
  • 1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 2 oz soda water
  • Ice cubes
  • Pear slice for garnish

Use ripe pears for the best flavor if making fresh pear juice at home. Bottled 100% pear juice works well too. Adjust the cardamom to taste.

Instructions

  • Add cardamom to the shaker and muddle gently to release oils.
  • After that, pour in pear juice and lemon juice. Then, fill the shaker with ice.
  • Next, shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds to chill and mix.
  • After shaking, strain the mixture into a tall glass filled with fresh ice.
  • Then, top it off with soda water and stir gently.
  • Finally, garnish with a pear slice on the rim of the glass.
  • Serve right away while cold and bubbly.

The mocktail is best enjoyed fresh.

    Notes

This recipe is easy to scale up for a crowd. Simply multiply the ingredients by the number of servings needed.
Try adding a cinnamon stick as a stirrer for extra spice. A splash of ginger beer can add some zing.
For a lower-sugar version, use half pear juice and half plain seltzer water. The cardamom flavor will still shine through.
